چکیده
[1] We use state‐of‐the‐art ab initio calculations based on the generalized gradient approximation of the density functional theory in the planar augmented wavefunction formalism to determine the elastic constants tensor of perovskite and post‐perovskite with formulas AlFeO3 and FeAlO3 in which Fe or Al respectively occupy only octahedral sites, for the stable magnetic configurations. The phase transition between perovskite and post‐perovskite is associated with a site exchange, during which Fe from the inter‐octahedral site in perovskite moves into the octahedral site in post‐ perovskite. Following this transition path the elastic moduli show positive jumps, considerably larger than forMgSiO3. The phase transition is marked by a positive jump of 0.04 km/s (0.33%) in the velocity of the compressional waves and by a negative jump of −0.15 km/s (−1.87%) in shear wave velocity. We find that the effects of the Mg + Si <=> Al + Fe substitution on the seismic properties of MgSiO3 perovskite and post‐perovskite depend on the crystallography of the substitution, namely the position the exchanged cations take in the structure. Elasticity of post-perovskite MgSiO3
[1] We have determined by first principles the athermal elastic constant tensor, single crystal and aggregated acoustic velocities, and anisotropy of the recently discovered post-perovskite MgSiO3 polymorph. This phase may be the most abundant mineral in the D00 region. We find that the post-perovskite phase has similar bulk modulus and larger shear modulus than perovskite at relevant pressures...

متن کاملExperimental and Kinetic Study of CO Oxidation Over LaFe1-xCuxO3 (x=0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6) Perovskite-Type Oxides
In this paper, catalytic oxidation of CO over the LaFe1-xCuxO3 (x= 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6) perovskite-type oxides was investigated. The catalysts were synthesized by sol-gel method and characterized by XRD, BET, FT-IR, H2-TPR and SEM methods. The catalytic activity of catalysts was tested in catalytic oxidation of CO. XRD patterns confirmed the synthesized perovskites to be single-phase perovskite-ty...
متن کاملFirst - principles theory of structural phase transitions for perovskites : competing instabilities
We extend our previous first-principles theory for perovskite ferroelectric phase transitions to treat also antiferrodistortive phase transitions. Our approach involves construction of a model Hamiltonian from a Taylor expansion, first-principles calculations to determine expansion parameters, and Monte Carlo simulations to study the resulting system. We apply this approach to three cubic perov...
متن کاملFirst-principles modeling of strain in perovskite ferroelectric thin films
We review the role that first-principles calculations have played in understanding the effects of substrate-imposed misfit strain on epitaxially grown perovskite ferroelectric films. We do so by analyzing the case of BaTiO3, complementing our previous publications on this subject with unpublished data to help explain in detail how these calculations are done. We also review similar studies in t...
